Watch Your Doctor Closely, They Can Make Mistakes
I have learned over the years that if you don’t monitor your healthcare providers decisions no one else will. On more than one occasion, I have been prescribed medications that had serious side effects when taken with other medications I am prescribed.
A little over a month ago I was given a prescription for a new medication to try to get a common condition under control. In this instance, I didn’t research the medication to check for any adverse side effects and simply took it as directed by my physician. Of course a red flag should have gone up when the pharmacy delayed filling it, but when I looked at its status online it was listed as pending. In the past this typically meant there was an insurance issue, so I just brushed it off and eventually they filled it, possibly after contacting my physician though I didn’t specifically ask.
After taking it for a bit, I’ve noticed some unusual muscle fatigue and overall physical tiredness which is not normal for me, almost a feeling that I was coming down with the flu. It took a little while for my commonsense to kick in, but I began researching this new medication and although it is a very common one and seemingly benign, it has the potential for some serious adverse side effects when combined with one of my other prescriptions.
