A Journaling App For Those That Just Want To Capture Their Words

I have been writing in journals on and off since I was a boy. In my early day’s we wrote in physical notebooks and used pens, but today we have so many more choices in the digital realm.
The most popular of these digital journals is Day One (Mac and iOS only). It has by far the most features of any journaling app I’ve come across allowing you to include photos, voice recordings, and PDFs among a whole host of other features, but these features do come at a cost of $35.00 per year. There is a free version, but it is significantly handicapped in my opinion. For me, my needs are simple. I prefer more old-school type journaling, just text; I don’t want or need the media features.
As a result, I’ve settled on an open-source journaling app called Mini Diary created by Samuel Meuli. It is simple and clean, yet it has some features that I find highly desirable. As a note, I do not know the developer nor do I receive any compensation.
Features
The most important feature in my view is that you control where your data lives. You can store it locally or on a cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
