I Love The New MacBook Pro Models, But I Won’t Be Getting One And Here’s Why
It’s all about having the right tool for the job
The 2021 MacBook Pro 14 and 16-inch laptops are arguably the best MacBooks Apple has ever produced. They are scary fast with their M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs, they have excellent multi-core GPUs, and include the ports that professionals have been asking for.
With this said, I have to ask, do you really need this much power to do your work? Remember that a computer is nothing but a tool. A means to an end.
There absolutely are people that need this much power in a portable (though barely) package. If you are a video producer, crunching through streams of 4K video footage, you do 3D modeling, or you are a photographer batch processing images all day long, then these MacBook Pros are for you. They really are excellent machines.
For me, and probably you, these MacBook Pro systems are overkill. And I don’t just mean regular overkill, but extreme overkill.
For the activities I regularly perform, which are writing, checking email, and browsing the internet, a MacBook Pro would offer me no advantage. What it would do, however, is put a big painful dent in my bank account.
