COVID-19, I Suppose Ignorance Was Bliss

I honestly haven’t given COVID-19 a second thought in many months. No one I knew has had it recently and I have been vaccinated and have gotten two boosters — it gives you a sense of invincibility. The problem is, it’s a false sense, and I was a fool for falling for it.

I spent this past week working in a conference room with a colleague from out of town. We worked in close proximity, unmasked. We had lunch together, along with our boss, and shared a ride to the restaurant. And guess what? Surprise! On Friday morning after he returned home, we were notified that he had contracted COVID.

I’ve taken 2 COVID tests so far and I’ve been negative, but needless to say, I’m concerned.

I have a number of lung issues, one of which is a high susceptibility to pneumonia. I’ve had it at least 10 times and been hospitalized for a minimum of 7 of those times.

As a result, I go out of my way to avoid putting myself in situations that may contribute to me getting it. That is except for this time obviously — I’ve been such an idiot that I could kick myself!

All these months of not wearing a mask has put me at risk and I didn’t do anything to mitigate it. With my health conditions, I should have been wearing a mask and distancing myself from…
