Hold yourself accountable

Stephen R. Covey is big on the need for individuals to take responsibility for themselves and their actions. These traits are something that is lacking in too many people.

“But until a person can say deeply and honestly, “I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday,” that person cannot say, “I choose otherwise.”

Unless we take responsibility for the things we’ve done in our lives, we won’t be able to change them in a positive way going forward.

So what does this mean?

It means we need to be accountable to ourselves before we can become a better version of ourselves.

If we don’t do this, we are condemning ourselves to a life of mediocrity.

Don’t let this happen to you

Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one-yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown.

I read this quote some time ago and it stuck with me.

How many times have you quit something because you didn’t get the results you wanted within the artificial timeframe you set.

My example:

I’ve not been terribly successful with my writing endeavors. I’ve started and quit many times. But had I not quit and pushed a little harder maybe I would have been a success.

Who knows, I could have been one foot away from winning.

Make a commitment to yourself to push through your failures. You may find yourself a winner on the other side.
